Oregano (Origanum compactum) Oregano has an extremely powerful scent. The oil is steam distilled from the leaves and flowers. It has a spicy, herby, pungent fragrance which is highly invigorating. This oil is to be treated with the utmost respect. ALWAYS dilute it. When taken internally the dose should be limited to 2 drops or less. (Our Oregano is "Generally Regarded As Safe" for internal use by the FDA) Apply the oil to the skin in diluted form - it's truly potent and best restricted to treating something specific.
This oil blends very well with
geranium, basil, fennel, lemongrass, myrtle, pine,
thyme and rosemary.
Oregano is generally listed as an oil to avoid during pregnancy. It's that cold and flu season again. Many of us are going to be healthy - thanks to our oils. Diffuse these blends in your home to kill airborne germs and bacteria. (We discussed the diffuser last month.) If you do manage to get sick - or if you know someone who is sick - this blend can be used in some steam vaporizers (check your model). Also add it to a hot bath and/or bath gel.
