Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)
Eucalyptus has a powerful
odour which is revitalizing and has a stimulating
effect on the nervous system. The oil is steam
distilled from the leaves of the tree. It has a
fresh, penetrating, camphorous and slightly sweet
scent.
People often say that
eucalyptus smells like "Vicks Vaporub"
- but it is quite the opposite. The "Vaporub"
smells like eucalyptus. Eucalyptus is often the
oil of choice for colds, coughs, sinusitis and
other respiratory ailments. When feverish, a drop
in body temperature can be obtained because of
the cooling effect this oil has on the body.
